Monet and Backlighting

It is noted that when Monet planned and then planted his gardens in Giverny, that he did so with consideration of how the light would play on  each garden throughout the day.  When painting his favorite was a backlit subject as it intensified the color and brought out more detail.

I took many pictures of the dogwoods in my garden this day.  I have to agree with Monet, backlighting is the secret, they really are spectacular in this lighting.
